Rawhide Corral Available for Rainwater Basin Wetland Grazing

Cattle producers who engage in wetland grazing programs or who work with public land agencies in the Rainwater Basin may avail themselves of a portable livestock corral and handling equipment through a no-cost lease.

The Little Blue Natural Resources District, in partnership with the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture, maintains a Rawhide Corral, Inc. livestock handling system to help producers move their cattle in order to graze Rainwater Basin wetlands.

Studies by RWBJV partners have found that wetland grazing provides high-quality forage while also maintaining wetlands’ habitat value for wildlife. Because of these findings, the Little Blue NRD acquired the equipment through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.

Producers may inquire about cost-free use of the equipment by calling Rainwater Basin Joint Venture Habitat Specialist Ele Nugent at 308-382-8112.

Additional information about grazing on public lands and other conservation lands can be found in the Grazer’s Library section of the RWBJV website library.
